Signature abilities
Detailed ability breakdowns
These signature abilities now fire in battle with their own damage and cooldowns — a bigger skill or ultimate hits harder, and the two healers restore HP instead of striking. Still on the way here on the site: the full per-ability breakdown (exact multipliers and effects), plus deeper mechanics like status effects and multi-target hits.
Lore
The Kingdom Recruit on the southern muster-rolls is Recruit Solm Iren, age eighteen, eight months out of the Solstice Empire's conscript barracks at Vesper-East. He is the youngest line-soldier currently assigned to Cohort-Vesti-South-Twelve and was placed in the cohort by Volley-Officer Vesti's specific request rather than by the muster-clerks' usual rotation, on the grounds that 'the cohort needs a recruit who has not yet learned the manual's wrong lessons.' The conscript-board has noted this as an unusual placement and has not contested it. Solm's enlistment file is unremarkable in every respect except one: under the box for 'reason for enlistment,' he wrote 'pay,' which the recruiting-clerk struck through and replaced with 'service,' and which Solm has not asked to have corrected.
His combat-grant in the strict tactical sense is the standard line-soldier discipline — formation-step, shield-cover, controlled engagement at the volley-officer's signal — applied with the unforced energy of a soldier who has not yet had to choose between two bad options on the field. Volley-Officer Vesti has identified, in private discussion with Pell and Tovin, that this is a finite resource and that the cohort's job is to spend the resource carefully. Solm is not aware of this discussion and the cohort has not relayed it to him. The cohort's small unspoken arrangement places him behind the Medic, covering the gap that opens when Tovin (char_kingdom_medic) closes on a casualty; the placement is structured so that Solm's identification of a target as 'a person' will be the cohort's signal to Pell (char_kingdom_archer) to refrain from drawing on that target.
He is on warm casual terms with the rest of his cohort and on more distant friendly terms with the Royal Guard wedge under Olin Verres (char_royal_guard), who has the wedge's standing instruction not to disturb Cohort-Vesti-South-Twelve when the formations are co-deployed. Solm has met Olin twice in the mess-tent and has come away both times with the impression that the wedge-leader was deliberately polite, which Solm has correctly read as a form of respect that the wedge does not extend to all line-cohorts. He has not yet been to the Cathedral chapel where Sister Aelin (char_cleric_of_sol) prays over the casualties; Tovin has indicated that this is a thing that will happen at the appropriate time, and Solm has not asked when.
