Detailed ability breakdowns

These signature abilities now fire in battle with their own damage and cooldowns — a bigger skill or ultimate hits harder, and the two healers restore HP instead of striking. Still on the way here on the site: the full per-ability breakdown (exact multipliers and effects), plus deeper mechanics like status effects and multi-target hits.

Lore

Nyx Varela is the mercenary the other mercenaries recommend. She is not the cheapest blade on the southern roster and she is not the flashiest — there are prettier killers and louder ones working the same contracts — but she is the one the careful clients ask for by name, because in eleven years of contract work she has never broken a signed term, never left a crew short, and never once been where the money said she'd be and the job said she wouldn't. Her reputation, which she has done nothing to cultivate, is a single sentence that has followed her across three factions' worth of paymasters: Nyx finishes.

Her school is unglamorous on purpose — a fast, economical blade-and-shadow style built for closing an engagement before it becomes a battle. She reads a fight the way an old quartermaster reads a ledger, finds the line that doesn't balance, and cuts it. The flourish other duelists spend on the kill she spends on the exit; she has walked away from more engagements clean than most operatives have finished at all. New clients sometimes mistake the lack of theater for a lack of teeth. They do this once.

She takes work from anyone whose contract is honest and no one whose contract is not, which has made her, over the years, a kind of neutral fixed point that every faction trusts a little and none of them owns. That is exactly why she is so often the first real blade a young commander is handed — a known quantity, a clean record, a fighter who will tell you the truth about the job before she takes it and the truth about the odds after. She has trained more first-time squad leaders than she can name, and she remembers all of them anyway. She would tell you that is just good record-keeping. The commanders she trained would tell you it is something else.
